The Greater Milwaukee Area Assembly #61 of the Society of American Magicians (SAM), is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Our member base of 100+ members meet the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM at Dicken's Grille, 9646 W. Greenfield Avenue, West Allis, WI 53214. Our purpose is to promote magic as a performing art.
In addition to the monthly meetings, Assembly #61 provides information on magic and magic events, including several shows each year by the club featuring local magicians. The club is made up of collectors, hobbyists, amateurs, and professionals.
Club Events
Lectures
We try to get great lectures like Michael Ammar, Danny Archer, Jay Scott Barry, Mark Mason, Pavel, Bob Sheets, and many more!!!
Club Magic Shows
We hold a a few yearly magic shows that club members can participate in and see. The two largest are Magic Magic and Cabaret Night.
Magic Magic is a large two hour magic show we produce each year in October. In a theatre that holds 1200 people we have close-up performers in the lobby before the show and a variety of stage performers.
Cabaret night is a much more intimate theatre setting to perform magic. This year we held the Cabaret in a small dinner theatre that seats 80 or so people. We had a variety of acts, including a Yo Yo Expert
Contests
We have begun holding a yearly close-up contest where everyone can show off there best close-up magic and win prizes and the chance to go home with our 6 foot tall traveling trophy.
Activity Nights and Share a Trick Nights
On these nights members have a chance to perform routines for one another, to get feedback, comments, or just a round of applause. If the performer desires he/she can teach routine the to everyone there! Some share a trick nights have themes, like Silk Magic or Rope Magic!
We really love our activity nights, it gives us a chance to be creative and spontaneous. When you get to the meeting there will be a variety of items on the table and instructions for a bunch of effects. After an hour or so of reading and practicing, everyone gets to perform and show what they have accomplished! The best few effects, by member vote, win prizes for their efforts.
Club Structure
The club consists of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, board members, general members, and Committees. Elections for officers are held each year in conjunction with the national elections. Committees are formed to manage various functions and events. Only current SAM members of both the national and local SAM may hold office in the assembly. Club business is presented at the meetings and any necessary voting is done by the members.
